NITRO

BRUSHLESS

This is my sub-page for the electric version of Trooper. IMHO it's easier to run - just plug the battery in and you're all set. Nitro version needs more attention before it's ready to go.

Failures that happened so far:
ESC went crazy when snow started to melt. ESC is waterproof, but snow broke fins in the fan (I guess this will fit as a replacement: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__43749__25mm_High_Speed_Cooling_Fan_for_1_10th_Scale_Car.html . Also the place where cables are soldered in is not isolated, water can do a short circuit easily. I siliconed this place with white sanitary silicone.

ESC died. It died after a jump. Minimal throttle was applied, so it's kinda strange. Failure is visible below:

Marking on this chip is not visible anymore, but I believe it was 662A GK332. Matching replacement should be MAX662ACSA: https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?minPrice=&maxPrice=&isBigSale=n&isShoppingCard=n&isFreeShip=y&isFavorite=n&isRtl=n&isLocalReturn=n&shipFromCountry=&shipCompanies=&SearchText=MAX662ACSA&CatId=0&g=y&SortType=price_asc&initiative_id=SB_20161104044247&needQuery=n Hopefully it'll work. In the meantime I installed Hobbyking X-Car 120A Brushless Car ESC:

It works fine. Some say you need programming card to set it up. You don't. Here're the most important part of the manual:

and a scan of the manual: Hobbyking X-Car 120A Brushless Car ESC manual

Wheel ball bearings are dying pretty fast when you drive on sand and dusty gravel roads. I replaced all bearings twice already. Matching size is 10x15x4mm (6700-2RS) for the inner bearing (lasts shorter) and 6x12x4mm (MR126-2RS) for the outer bearing (lasts longer as it's "hidden" inside the rim).
